One of the simplest things pr0n does is act as a gauge for sexuality. Go ahead and search any word in Google Images, making sure Safe Search is off. Of the 20 images that pop up, how many of them would you classify as porn? You can think of that number as the word's sex factor.
For example, none of the pictures that came up when I searched "high heels" were pornographic, so high heels have a sex factor of 0. But "stockings" gave me 6 pr0n hits, so they have a sex factor of 6.
You can see how this would be a useful exercise. Say you're an Asian Studies major, and you want to compare how fetishized different countries in Asia are:
1. Thai (sex factor=8)
2. Filipino (7)
3. Japanese (6)
4. Malaysian (5)
5. Korean (4)
5. Laotian (4)
7. Chinese (3)
8. Vietnamese (2)
9. Singaporean (1)
9. Indonesian (1)
With this data, I'm sure you could calculate "fetishization" as a function of boring factors like location, population, and colonization. I'll leave that to the "experts."
See the wonders of pr0n? I'm halfway to getting my doctorate, and I had a boner for the entirety of my research.
