Barnard Students Phonebank for ObamaRight now, we’re in Brooks Hall on Barnard’s campus, where Students for Obama is phonebanking all day. I spoke with the organization’s president here at Columbia, Columbia sophomore Mary McDonald, who outlined the group’s recent activities — phonebanking every night for the past 10 days, having debate-watching parties, participating in the “Walk For Change” for Obama (35 Columbia students attended), setting up tables on College Walk — and expressed hope for the events of today.

“It’s not hard to sell people on Obama,” she said. McDonald mentioned that awareness on campus about the elections has been high in anticipation of the campaign, saying there has “definitely been extra energy” on campus.

According to McDonald, as of last night Columbia’s Students for Obama had made 3500 calls and signed up 342 supporters. They’ve had about 50 students help with phonebanking in the past few days, expect to have a large number of students coming and going throughout the day to make calls and help out.

Next, we’re off to find out what other groups on campus are doing for Super Tuesday.

Polls close in New York at 9pm EST. Seven hours and counting…
