Election 2008

Allen kicks it off…

Colin Kavanaugh

Obama gets the first question, on how to help the regular folks out there in this economic crisis.

Obama is talking about “step one” which is strong oversight — careful Obama, this isn’t a UChicago lecture.
He now mentions middle class tax cuts, and says government needs to think about “middle class.”

McCain steps right into his comfort zone — energy independence in a town hall format, tax reductions, and cutting spending. “Thanks Allen for your question,” he says coolly.

McCain says he would have government buy up bad mortgages, and says he knows it will be expensive, but “trust and confidence” must be restored. Also, separates himself from Obama proposal AND Bush proposal.
