Live from the College Republicans results-watching party

Between 20-25 people have gathered at the College Republican watch party, located at an off-campus house near 41st and Locust streets.

As the group watched the results on Fox News, Communications director for the College Republicans Michael Tate said, “this event is one of the biggest events we’re having… it’s too early to call but everybody’s pumped up right now.”

He expects the number of party attendees to double or triple after 9 p.m., once everyone is done working at the polls.

Members of the Penn Democrats and Penn for Obama are giving out stickers to those who voted for the presidential candidate. If the number of people who chose to take them indicates voting results, Obama is doing very well.

College freshman Daniel Rockower, who was giving out stickers outside of the voting area at the Penn Care and Rehibilitation Center, said “It definitely seems that the majority are taking the stickers.”

Rockower added that there do not seem to be supporters of Republican presidential candidate John McCain who are “pissed off” when asked if they want one.

Already Problems at the Polls

The polls opened only a few hours ago, but there have already been some issues.

Poll workers at Steinberg Dietrich Hall, where residents of Rodin and Du Bois College Houses are casting their ballots, said they have made a number of students cast provisional ballots because their names were not in the voting books.

Also, mechanics have already had to come in to fix voting machines at the Penn Care and Rehabilitation Center polling area on 36th and Chestnut Streets.
