Mayoral candidates speak out

Julie Siegel

Even though the primary elections for Philadelphia’s next mayor will occur after graduation, when Penn, Philadelphia, and finals are a mere memory for most students, they are still critically important to Penn. No, really…I promise.

There is a special election feature in today’s print edition of the DP which includes information on the issues and candidates, polls, and the DP Opinion Board’s endorsements. The Spin wanted in on the action.

All five Democratic mayoral campaigns were contacted to submit posts to the blog. Four of the five — all but Chaka Fattah’s campaign — responded. The posts went up, in alphabetical order, at 9am. The links and multimedia included were submitted by the campaigns.

Enjoy the feature and remember to vote in the primary on May 15.

I see the Daily Pennsylvanian has become the official mouthpiece for the PennDems…talk about unbiased journalism…

  2. It's together. Says:

How can you care about the Republican primary when there’s no Republican primary?

  3. Yo Mama Says:

Get it together, you are actually retarded. There’s only one candidate in the Gop primary, so there’s no need for attention right now. Have you even watched/heard of the primary debates — it was the 5 Dems, and no Republican. The GOP candidate is Al Taubenberger, but maybe you actually knew that, maybe you don’t just bitch and whine without actually knowing anything yourself.

    To Yo Mama:

Actually, I have been paying attention, and have come to the conclusion that each of the Democratic candidates is only going to further the ineffectual governing strategies of Street’s bungled administration. I could add that they offer no real vision for the future and no concrete plan to get out of this mess, with most running on an anti-corruption platform while failing to answer Philadelphia’s broken school system or to offer a realistic solution to the violence.

Before you go attacking Republicans, I’d like to add one thing: your party’s been in control for fifty-five years and has led Philadelphia into a drug-fueled, poverty-induced downward spiral that has culminated in today’s disastrous situation, broken school system, extreme violence and general hopelessness. I think it’s time for a change, for a real leader with a real vision who can halt stand up to such harsh realities and turn the city around. I know where my vote’s going in the next election.

If there’s two things Republicans care about, it’s got to be gun control and helping poor people get quality education. Wow man, you clearly don’t read any of the issues pages on the campaign Web sites, or have any sense of reality. Education has been the #2 or at worst #3 most talked about issue of the campaign. Though I’ll admit I’d vote for Sam Katz over Knox… although he’s now an independent, haha.
