It’s not supposed to be funny. But if people are going to riot when Ali says even this, I think this is going to be an interesting semester.

I’ll agree that Ali Jackson isn’t Jon Stewart but she isn’t trying to be so who cares? She can write better than most of the “me-too-ers” (my word) who will bitch on the online message board endlessly about tiny little typo and apostrophe errors in the stories, using this as an example of how bad the editors are. If they knew what the f**k they were talking about, they’d bitch about the close-minded unworldliness of the column section. But, I will say that that section of our paper is a good primer for the emptiness of the Penn soul for all the high schoolers reading the DP.

Some people are funny and not good at writing, others are gifted writers who have no sense of humor. Ali Jackson is good at neither of these things.
If you want better journalism read the new york post. If you want better comedy, watch schlindlers list.

Why don’t you stop complaining and apply then?

It’s run by COLLEGE students giving commentary on COLLEGE. This is not the new york post. Those people get PAID to do what they do and they do it full time. What more do you want from the DP staffers? Quit their jobs as students and work at the DP full time?

penn parent,
how did your child get into penn with some of your genes. the previous post was a joke — the NY Post’s writing is terrible, much worse than the DP’s, except for that of Ali. Secondly, DP staffers in many cases do work full time, it’s just that some are better than others. Given your stupidity and comments, I would have to think that you are in fact Ali’s mother. What a shame.

The DP may suck, but it’s not nearly as bad as the New York Post. Silly parent, you must have confused the Post with the Times. Your child must be one of those first generation college students from Appalachia because your grammar is appalling.

wrong on both counts; my older kid graduated from sas last year and i have another one who wants to go to penn. and i meant what i said about the post - i enjoy their news and sports coverage. different people just gravitate towards different types of newspapers. my basic point was that you can’t come down too hard on DP because its run by students. i also think it’s just a bit tasteless to insult someone like ali who is doing a job. no one is forcing you to read this blog. i read it during the year because i want to. if you don’t like it, go somewhere else.

Ladies and gentlemen, why must we behave in such a nasty manner? Honestly, insulting someone’s mother? Besides, I’ve yet to come across one comment on either of these two silly little posts by Ms. Jackson that actually contains an ounce of the biting wit and/or sarcasm that its author seems to believe exists. How about we all take advantage of the myriad number of writing classes at our illustrious institution of higher learning and then we can all start up our own newspapers or blogs and show the DP what “Real Journalism” is? Oh, wait, you’re not willing to invest the time it takes to do that? So shut the hell up and stop wasting your time with the DP. Read a real newspaper instead of this crap. You can get the New York Times delivered for 50% off the normal rate you know…. BTW, I don’t think Ali is that funny either, and the whole “minions” joke is a little played.

college soph you are pathetic. ali sucks. keep the revolution alive!
August 21st, 2007 at 3:16 pm
I’ll only apply if you agree to be MY minion - because I guarantee you that I have more blogging and journalism experience than you do.

I wonder how many of these ridiculously feeble attempts to apologize for the quality of the DP are written by Ali herself…

Well, she’s not Jewish.

Ali Jackson once wrote a column about black lycra pants. Says it all really…
