Sure, scheduling a “social study session” is pretty ridiculous. Kudos to the Biology department for trying to be the geekiest people ever. But so long as Engineers are in Towne, that title belongs to SEAS.
That’s why only Penn Engineers got a collective casting call from the CW’s mediocre Beauty and the Geek. In an email sent out to the SEAS listserv, Casting Director DJ Feldman writes that several students “suggested we contact your department to help us get the word out and reach the best possible people for the show.”
Ouch.
Complete email after the jump.
Season 5 of the hit show Beauty and the Geek has begun casting and we will be coming to your area VERY SOON, per the request of the students at Penn!
Thank you to all of the students who have been emailing, requesting the show hold a casting call at Penn (Philly), several have suggested we contact your department to help us get the word out and reach the best possible people for the show, as traditionally our best cast members have come through referrals and we know Penn is home to MANY, MANY intelligent students.
If you are interested, or anyone you know is interested please contact me for further details. I’d be glad to answer any of your questions, all applicants must be at least 21 years old.
In the past, we have had a Rubik’s cube champion, a speed chess champion, MIT’s Pi recitation champion, a rocket scientist, Professors, and many other highly intelligent, highly skilled men on the show.
We look forward to coming to your school and meeting you and making season 5 the best cast yet!!!!!
Remember, last season’s winners won $250,000

S. Sonya Gwak, Ph.D.
Associate Director for Student Affairs and Advising School of Engineering and Applied
Science Office of Academic Programs
It’s good to know that, as Associate Director for Student Affairs and Advising, Dr. Gwak deems it appropriate to humiliate an entire school. Any shred of coolness any engineer was still attempting to cling onto has just fluttered away.
If you’re thinking of auditioning, remember that as a Penn student you’re a legacy — ‘06 alum (and CSE major) Will Frank was a contestant this season.

Another reason for ‘Penn legacy’ - the season 1 winner was a Penn Med (’07) student - Chuck Munyon.
