Possibly the only time Penn will have a #1 seed in anything

Simeon McMillan

Here at the DP, we work tirelessly around the clock. Such front page gems range from our alert of students peeing on statues to today’s a full-page tutorial on how to super-soak that special someone in your life.

But then we miss a story like this…

Over at the Worst Ivy League A Capella Tournament on the IvyGate blog, Penn’s very own Chord on Blues have made it to the semi-finals in a competition no one wants to win. After handily blowing by the competition in round one, these guys look like they have a one-way ticket straight to the championship round.

As a writer, I could take the easy way out and tell you to continue to make fun of them. However, that would be predictable, and I will leave that distinction to the other news departments.

I say, let us stand together as Quakers and unite for a common good. We must raise our voices together (hopefully in tune) and vote against the Chord on Blues so they do not win the championship.

This competition reflects badly on us as a university. I am sure application numbers would precipitously drop next fall were the truth to get out that most of our singing groups really aren’t that good.

Now that would be a scandal worth covering.
