Straight from the pages of today’s DP:
“We chose The Roots because they’re a group that attracts a wide audience,” College junior and SPEC-TRUM co-director Efe Johnson said.
Ironic how it was the organizers of the DP-dubbed “Minority Fall Show” who figured out this elusive formula for success.

Hopefully SPEC was taking notes.
Last night Irvine was rockin’ as Philadelphia’s very own Roots put on a spectacular performance.
The biggest surprise of the evening was when drummer and musical director of the group ?uestlove (pronounced Quest-love) informed the audience that he was actually born across the street at the University’s very own hospital.
To all the substance-abusing students at Penn, that knowledge should provide a sense of pride when they end up in the same hospital this weekend to get their stomachs pumped.
After last night’s resounding success, students need to stop complaining about SPEC and instead reach out and give them the proper feedback they need to tailor future events.
If you haven’t already, take a moment and do the SPEC Student Body Survey.
After three years of mediocre Fling concerts, I’d encourage students to vote for the combining of the SPEC and SPEC-TRUM budgets to give us the power to bring a single major headliner to campus. Fling is too big an event to hold two separate concerts for the different “audiences” of the university. At the end of the day, we all just want to see a good show, and the splitting of concerts just ends up leaving everyone dissatisfied.
Rock the vote.
