Worst. Door. Ever.

Nick McAvoy

I’ve always been bothered by the door to the Fine Arts Library:

Not a very good door then, is it?

Says College junior and library employee Ben Wiebracht: “People still try to open it all the time.” The message must not be clear enough - they should get a bigger sign. Or, you know, just open the door.

Don’t get me started on the opaque windows.

But, why would you want a door that opens?

In some cultures, doors that don’t open are called walls.

Hm… I’m reminded of Addams’ photo lab “Exit, DO NOT OPEN” signs that *gasp* lead not to the great outdoors and supposed safety, but rather take one farther into the dark core of the building. Furthermore, as a one time reference desk urchin in the aforementioned institution, I have insider information: the door DOES, in fact, open. What does it all mean??? Is there a conspiracy against doors? What if the door WANTS to open? Are we the witnesses of rampant door repression, engineered through institutionalized denial of the doors’ true abilities? And is there a facebook group I can join to comfortably fight this injustice?

No one ever reads those signs. They push doors that say “PULL” and pull doors that say “PUSH”. And it’s amazing how many people still have trouble with revolving doors.
