I have a confession to make . . .
I am a recovering Management 100 TA addict.
At first, this job looked like a dream come true.
Where else in society can you have a somewhat unhealthy obsession with the lives of young students and not have to register with a governmental agency?
Initially the power was exhilarating. Always had I wanted a younger sibling to look after. Virtually overnight I gained 10 overly-zealous type-A personality 18-year-olds divulging all of their deepest and darkest secrets to me via Wharton therapy sessions nicknamed “one-on-ones”. (Note the dramatization pictured above.)
Think of it as CAPS for the aspiring investment banker. Except here feigning illness doesn’t win you a prescription for study aids.
Over a cup of over-priced Au Bon Pain coffee, they explained the unimaginable trials and tribulations of freshman life at an Ivy League university.
Frankly, I don’t know how these students deal with all the stress. From trying to get Billy and Suzy to come to team meetings, to learning how to memorize a four-minute speech with a measly three weeks to prepare, to having to proofread 250 word essays . . .
. . . all the while, taking a whopping 4 classes.
No wonder Penn students turn to street pharmacists.
So if you see a TA walking with his or her head down on Locust Walk, give that man/woman a hug. It’s hard work training the future insider traders of Wall St.
Now that I got that off my chest….let me get back to work on Monday’s Buy, Sell, and Hold.
Get excited.
