It’s been a while since the UA’s first YouTube debut, when the all-powerful ninja, Jason Karsh, took center stage. Yesterday, the UA was so kind as to send a link to the newest video to each class listserv. This time Karsh (who makes sure to remind all viewers that he dressed up as a ninja) and several other UA members share the spotlight. Pay close attention now, and be sure to note the talking bus.
Forget rape, crime, and Lee Stetson, it’s time to ’superman that ho’ on YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTube.
A comment left by PuneethNaresh underneath YouTube Address 2 illustrates what these videos are doing to the UA’s reputation.
I no longer have any respect for your organization, and now I am certain of a what I had expected for a long time: STUDENT GOVERNMENT IS A POPULARITY CONTEST.
While I recognize that even groups with the most serious jobs need to let loose and have fun once and while, the UA shouldn’t waste our time doing it. They created these videos to try and get a message out, and they need to get to the point. Stop dancing and dressing up, and tell us what we need to know.
Also, video can be a powerful tool. Want more people to come to open forum? Show a clip of it (or better yet, a clip of where it’s located). Want to help people get to the airport? Show them where the UA shuttle will pick them up (or better yet, show them how to use the R1). Showing Karsh’s pretty face (did I mention he dressed up as a ninja?) won’t get the job done.
Oh, and kudos for using a “special announcement” to keep me riveted to the end. To bad I already get the New York Times for free here.

Ivygate should pick this story up. I think the UA should be applauded for their efforts to find new ways to communicate with their constituents.

I think the UA should be mocked for thinking its constituents give a crap about its communications.
