Or is it State of the Unions?
Anyway, as a senior, I can breathe a sigh of relief now that Emeril Lagasse, renowned Food Network star (”It’s more than a cookery show, it’s relaxing!”), will not be sending me off into the real world with his Crab Remick recipe. By the way, when you watch the YouTube clip I want your opinions on whether the cameraman was drunk.
Nevertheless, I wonder what Lagasse’s speech would have been like…
“BAM! I’m Emeril Lagasse. Thank you, President Gutmann, for my honorary Master’s Degree in food technology. Well, ladies and gents, to me a University is like a recipe… You take a few young people, some seasoned old people and ummm, a sprinkling of red and blue and you, like, blend it all together to get one special place.”
In my experience, life is one big recipe. It has a lot of ingredients and you need to find the right balance. Why, when I used to have a show on the Food Network WHY DID THEY CUT ME THE BASTARDS?!” Cue public breakdown because of loss of career.
If we were to have a famous cook, I’d muuuuuch rather have Ainsley Harriott from England. Who rocks. Check out his rather bizarre show below.
While we are on the subject of speechifying, was it me, or did President Bush sound… articulate during his last State of the Union yesterday? I mean, I didn’t actually agree with most of what he was saying, but he sounded commanding. So, he decided to bring the clever-in-control-President thing just for his last year? Did he want to be a laughingstock for seven and then surprise everyone?
Nah. He probably just practiced for five months beforehand. Usually he sounds like this.

I actually thought Emeril could have been a very enjoyable choice. “Kick it up a notch!” He’s actually a real chef, unlike some other Food Network personalities (Rachael Ray). He also comes from pretty humble beginnings and would probably have good things to say. Just don’t mention his failed sitcom.
I agree that he wouldn’t be my first choice cook speaker, though. I would go with Alton Brown - he’s brilliant, he’s funny, and he is one heck of a cook.
