Killer hawk beautifies campus, is Amy Gutmann

Nick Barr

A red-tailed hawk has been spotted on campus. And like every student except Jon, it hates squirrels. Here it is disemboweling one outside Van Pelt:

Poor squirrel.

(Sorry for the low-res picture — it was taken on a cellphone camera. For a great picture of what could very well be the same bird, click here.)

The hawk was later seen devouring a pigeon at the doorstep of 4050 Irving, making me wonder if it has been employed by the University to rid our campus of every last uncute scavenger.

Of course, it would be difficult to train a hawk to attack squirrels but not, say, that Jack Russel Terrier down the block, so there’s really only one explanation. Amy Gutmann is an animagus, and this hawk is her animal form.

Don’t believe me? Check out this picture that was taken last year. It catches her mid-transformation:

Increasing security, expanding eastward, and now eating the intestines of rodents. You’re doing a great job, Amy!

How did you get the photo from your camera onto the internet? Do you need something new-fangled?

Most phones will sell a USB cable that can transfer data btwn comp and phone. Usually they’ll try to sell you the cable + software for up to $40, but try doing what I did and buy the cable on ebay for cheap and then dload the software for free online. If you’ve got a newer model it might be bluetooth capable, which means you can just wave your phone at your comp and it will magically appear on the screen.

Now if only we can get the hawk to do the same for the beggars.
