The Spin

Perhaps the worst is over.

Anthony Cirranello

The Phillies! They did it! Seriously though, was that really the most exciting thing that happened on Wednesday? No, because Wednesday was hopefully the last time anyone will have to listen to more than a commercial’s worth of John McCain ever again.

With the final debate concluding two days ago, there is absolutely nothing left for the world to do but wait, vote, and wait some more… right? No, probably not. But I do look forward to the time after this election is over, so we will all have more exciting things to talk about with each other than three senators and a governor.

Though I must hand it to McCain and Obama. They have kept me entertained for the past few months. Who knew that John did such a great zombie impression? Or that Barack was such a big Rick Astley fan? I certainly didn’t.

For every Joe Six-Pack or Joe the Plumber, whether you’re from a red or a blue state, the prez and veep noms have given us all something to laugh about. McCain’s national, verbal exclamation regarding equine fecal matter, Obama’s penchant for inhaling… there has been something for everyone to giggle at.

But it is true that after long enough, things that were once funny are funny no longer. Now, stabs at Palin’s lack of knowledge in her ‘field of expertise’ have become almost shameful. I wonder how far the media will go, and how deep reporters will dig into these politicians until they realize their inhumanity.

I hope that with this last debate comes an end to the scrutiny and, dare I say, the obsession with the presidential debate. We should all know what we need to know by now; this has been the most covered election in the history of the world. It’s time to focus on present, impending issues, to look toward the vote, and to hopefully progress to a more facetious, less critical, and far less tense era of our lives.

Indeed this is an important election, but if you don’t know your candidate by now, perhaps voting isn’t right for you.
