Intoducing your Fall 2007 bloggers

Ali Jackson

It was a tough, competitive process, but The Spin has finally got its staff! You’ll see a few familiar faces, but look out for our newbies and don’t be too hard on them. Everyone’s ready to go, so without further ado, I give you your Fall 2007 bloggers:

Fresh off the construction site, Dan Brickley is back and ready for action. A sophomore majoring in Environmental Studies and Biology and minoring in German (random, he knows), Brickley is from Detroit - so naturally, he’s good friends with Eminem and Kid Rock. da Bricks knows day wayz of da streetz. Or something like that. He enjoys being on campus, eating EasyMac, and walking his dog, Pepper. He will be blogging on Mondays and Wednesdays.

A College sophomore, Mike Tate is back in the mix - from blogging on WatchBlog to
blogging for a href="http://teamtancredo.typepad.com/team_tancredo/presidential_debate_in_new_hampshire_at_saint_anselm_college/index.html">Congressman
running for president. And now he joins our humble Spin family. His blog will appear on Mondays and Fridays.

A College junior from Langhorne, Pa. (your typical Philadelphia suburb), Morgan Hennessy is the lone pre-med girl in our humanities-ridden world. Hennessy loves mustard, loud music, and memorizing statistics. Want to make her mad? Talk really slowly, wave wet socks in her face, and spout radically conservative ideologies. Her blog will run on Mondays and Wednesdays.

College senior Collin Beck loves stand up comedy and bad TV. And that’s all you’re getting - he’s pretty much an enigma. Look for his work on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

College senior Nick McAvoy’s favorite presidents are Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and George Washington. Despite being a Deadhead, he enjoys the work of Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, and Chopin as much as the next guy (well, okay, probably more than that guy). Give him a pepperoni pizza and a bowl of chocolate ice cream, and he’ll be a happy camper - at least until the Phillies lose. Check him out on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Proving that we Whartonites really do have souls is senior and returning blogger Simeon McMillan. A Delta Tau Delta brother, McMillan is your guy for stock tips and Wharton TA’ing - stalk him in Management 100 or Operations and Information Management 621. But if you really want to know what he’s thinking, read his blog on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

College sophomore Lindsey Stull wants to talk about sex. She’s been listening to you all discussing your sex lives and exchanging rumors, information (and misinformation) and she’s wondering how much you really know about your favorite activity. Ask her about human biology or how to find Oklahoma on a map (hint: it’s not near North Dakota). Don’t be looking for another Elle - Stull will not be discussing her personal experiences and any resemblances to real people is purely accidental. Sorry to all you egomaniacs out there. Check her out on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Another returning blogger, College senior Caroline Pearsall is back from a semester break. Don’t challenge this girl to a foot race or an eating contest - she’ll blow you out of the water. Read her work on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Elizabeth Song is straddling print and The Spin this semester. A College junior from Clemmons, North Carolina, Song is a writing tutor and serves on the Dean’s Advisory Board. She’s a busy girl, so you can read her blog on Fridays only.

College senior Nick Barr is not a man to mess with - his interests include the martial art kendo and the game theory behind rock, paper, scissors. Too bad they don’t make organizations for hand games - Barr has yet to find a school club he enjoys…except of course for the short-lived ones he invents. His blog runs on Mondays and Thursdays.

And that’s our staff! Look for our first posts tomorrow morning!

APPLY TO BE A BLOGGER

Ali Jackson

We’ve decided to extend the application deadline to this Friday, August 17.

So, for all of you who seem to think the content is lacking (we’ll use my word, and not any of the ones you’ve supplied), why don’t you apply?

Get your voice heard and help us build this blog to what we all know it can be.

The application can be found here and you can send them to applications@dailypennsylvanian.com.

And remember, The Spin starts up publication on the first day of classes, September 5!

Apply to be my minions!

Ali Jackson

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for…my takeover of The Spin. I know you’ll miss Julie, but waffles and, well, whatever else they have in Belgium call so you’re stuck with me.

If any of you want to be even more stuck, I encourage you to apply to be a Spin blogger! We’re looking for talented, witty, original, insightful, good-looking (I mean, what?) people to write blogs for the fall semester and we want you! Applications can be found here along with instructions and where to send them.

Don’t forget to do it by August 10 or there’s no telling what I’ll do. Let’s keep me happy, people, shall we?

That’s it for now, don’t forget to send in your applications! We want to hear from you!

And for those of you less-writing-more-reading people, The Spin will be back in publication on the first day of classes, September 5. Tune in and see what we’re up to!
